Chip manufacturing demands extreme cleanliness and chemical resistance, and PTFE delivers both. In wafer fabs it appears as:
- Tubing and liners for ultra-pure chemical delivery — transporting aggressive media like hydrofluoric acid without leaching contaminants. Switching from less suitable polymers to PTFE has been reported to cut particle counts substantially.
- Wafer handling components — soft, non-scratching and metal-free, so they do not damage wafers or introduce ions.
- Wet-bench and etch components — nozzles, supports, seals and focus rings that survive fluorine-based plasmas and hot acids.
- Seals and O-rings — maintaining vacuum integrity across wide temperature swings in lithography equipment.
