Nylon (PA6 / PA66 / MC Cast)
Tough, wear-resistant and with excellent sliding properties — available as extruded PA6/PA66 and large cast (MC) nylon.
Nylon (polyamide) offers an outstanding combination of toughness, wear resistance and sliding performance. Extruded PA6 and PA66 cover general wear parts with good strength, while cast MC nylon allows very large components such as gears and sheaves to be produced economically.
It is a preferred material wherever parts must absorb shock, run quietly against metal, or resist repeated impact and abrasion.

Key Properties
| Density | 1.13 – 1.15 g/cm³ (PA6) |
| Service temperature | −40 to +105 °C |
| Coefficient of friction | 0.15 – 0.40 |
| Water absorption | 1.5 – 2.5 % (higher than most) |
| Tensile strength | 70 – 85 MPa (dry) |
| Impact strength | Very high — excellent toughness |
| Abrasion resistance | Excellent |
| Oil & fuel resistance | Good |
Typical Applications
- Wear pads and slide plates
- Rollers, sheaves and gears
- Bearings and bushings
- Guide rails and chain guides
- Conveyor and material-handling parts
- Impact and shock-absorbing components
Available Forms & Sizes
| Form | Size range | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Extruded sheet | 1 – 100 mm thick | PA6 natural / black |
| Rod | 10 – 250 mm diameter | Extruded PA6 |
| Cast (MC) sheet | 10 – 150 mm thick | Large sizes available |
| Cast (MC) rod | 20 – 500 mm diameter | For very large parts |
Grades & Modifications
Available in PA6, PA66 and cast MC nylon, plus oil-filled (self-lubricating), glass-fibre reinforced, MoS²-filled and food-contact grades. Nylon can also be heat-stabilised for higher working temperatures.
Machining & Fabrication
Nylon machines well on CNC equipment, producing strong, impact-resistant finished parts. Because it absorbs moisture, we recommend specifying critical dimensions for the equilibrium condition or applying a moisture-conditioning step before final machining.
